Job opportunity – full-time experienced grower/manager wanted at Canalside

Canalside Community Food, a pioneering CSA based outside Leamington Spa, is looking for a new grower/manager. We are seeking an experienced grower to join our team producing organic vegetables and fruit throughout the year for our community of over 150 members. The successful candidate will work alongside the current manager, administration team, other growers and seasonal staff. After a season to learn the ropes, the new grower/manager will take the lead role in organising and leading the day-to-day management of the farm which includes organising and leading volunteer work mornings, working from and adapting an established rotation and cropping plan, operating a tractor and various manual tools, and sitting on the steering group. We are looking for someone commit to this fantastic opportunity for at least three seasons. We currently have 7 acres of field scale vegetables, 7 large polytunnels for protected cropping and a 2 acre orchard of top and soft fruit. This position is full-time (37.5 hours per week, March – October; 30 per week November – February) £18,20 salary, rising to £20,000, with statutory holiday allowance and pension offered.

Lillington Children’s Centre has one year funding from Warwick District council to continue the development of the community food project – raising awareness around healthy eating including the community café and promoting the food co-operative buying group.

Key Responsibilities:

To build on the development of the community café based in the Lillington Children’s Centre and make links with existing food projects, including the Food Co-op and the allotment

To attract a wide range of cafe customers, especially families with young children, to create a vibrant café environment

To promote, develop and manage the Lillington Food Co-op and attract a wide range of new customers

To manage the day to day running of the café and co-op, including basic book keeping, and to lead a team of volunteers to help make the projects a success, running the café four days a week and the co-op one day a week

To develop awareness in the community of the importance of healthy eating

To contribute to the development of a sustainable future for the project

Ensure reporting to the funder is carried out on a regular basis.

Lillington Community Café – volunteers needed

Does anyone fancy volunteering at Lillington Community Café or do you know
anyone who might?
We are looking for people who would like to cook, or help with cooking, or
serve drinks and cakes for an hour or so in the morning. Food is usually
vegetarian and soup and homemade bread are available alongside a hot meal.
Food Hygiene training available.
The café runs on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday lunchtime with a varying
start time.

Bishops Itchington Community Growing Space

Action Week
Monday 24th to Friday 28th September
On Monday 24th September work will begin to transform the land next to the garages off of Old Road in to a community growing space for all to grow fruit and veg, and enjoy.

To make this happen we need your help.

We will be on the site from around 11am each day until 6pm.

Please help out whenever you’re free, for as long as you’re able to, there will be tools available and maybe even some biscuits!

There will be a notice board in the entrance to the garden with more information about what we will be doing each day.

Free Entry to Warwick Folk Festival!

Hi All

You may like to know about another of ARC’s projects….. We provide a litterpicking and recycling service at festivals and events within Warwick District.

Our next event is the Warwick Folk Festival at the end of July. If you volunteer to do a 4 hour shift we say thank you with free day pass to the Folk Festival held on the grounds of Warwick School on Myton Road, Warwick. All training and equipment is provided by ARC.

Foundry Wood draft drawing and next work party Sunday 20th May

Hello all,

Thanks for your ongoing support of Foundry Wood. Just to keep you up to date – below is a drawing of the vision for the woodland site.

A more formal planning application has been submitted this week but the attached gives you an idea of what we hope to achieve. If you have any further queries or would like details of a specific project – please get in touch with Kath or myself.

Also, the next work party on site is later this month:

When: Sunday 20th May, 11am – 3pm
Where: Meet at Victoria Park Car park on Princes Drive opposite the entrance to the tip. If you can’t make it for 11, please phone Kath on 07814 605 245 and she will come and meet you
What: Levelling the ground where we’ve cleared the brambles (so a bit of digging), planting some wildflowers plus a few other jobs depending on weather!

Please wear sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing, tools will be provided as well as Tea/Coffee and biscuits!
