THE OXFAM GET TOGETHER – FRIDAY 8th MARCH 2013

February 7, 2013 by General Administrator

Oxfam would like to invite you, your friends, family and colleagues to join them in the UK’s biggest celebration of International Women’s Day. Here at Oxfam, women’s rights are at the centre of everything we do. International women’s Day is our chance to celebrate all the amazing things women achieve – as well as raise awareness of women’s issues that still need to be tackled.

During the week of 8th March, we’re asking people to Get Together with friends, colleagues and loved ones, to celebrate International Women’s Day and to raise money to transform the lives of women living in poverty.

Your Oxfam Get Together can be anything – last year over a thousand events took place across the UK, ranging from coffee mornings and cake sales to dinner parties and yoga classes! Whether at work or at home, however big or small, the money you raise really does make a difference – just £31 is enough to train a midwife in Ghana, showing that a little money really does go a long way.

To find out more, get lots of creative ideas of what you could do for your Get Together and register for your free party pack, visit www.oxfam.org.uk/gettogether today.

Bishops Itchington Community Growing Space

September 20, 2012 by General Administrator

Action Week
Monday 24th to Friday 28th September
On Monday 24th September work will begin to transform the land next to the garages off of Old Road in to a community growing space for all to grow fruit and veg, and enjoy.

To make this happen we need your help.

We will be on the site from around 11am each day until 6pm.

Please help out whenever you’re free, for as long as you’re able to, there will be tools available and maybe even some biscuits!

There will be a notice board in the entrance to the garden with more information about what we will be doing each day.

Thanks,
David Garrett, Garden Organic

Diggers awake! Saturday 20th October 2012

September 10, 2012 by General Administrator

A moment in English history and its relevance to land, food, the biosphere and human potential now
A Discussion and the film ‘Winstanley’

Saturday 20 October 2012
Kineton Village Hall, Kineton, Warwicks
3.30 – 7.00

With food policy expert Professor Tim Lang, English revolution historian George Yerby, Latin America land rights watcher Tony Campbell – and the film Winstanley.

In 1649, in defiance of local landowners, a group of activists and unemployed people led by Gerrard Winstanley, occupied the common land on St George’s Hill, Surrey and began growing food there. So began the Diggers movement.

Today we face big challenges of how we use and look after our land. Whether it’s global food security, or local community activism, land use and land rights are as relevant as ever. Who owns our land? What should we do with land? Nature or nurture?

To celebrate the Diggers and discuss their contemporary resonance, Getting Kineton Growing, in association with Rescue!History, is organising this afternoon event. It also dovetails with the Sealed Knot’s 370th anniversary commemoration of the battle of Edgehill.

Admission for the event will be by prior registration and will include the
cost of a wholesome, vegetarian, locally derived buffet supper.

Registration by 14 October
£10.00 wage-earners
£6.00 unwaged and students

For registration and more information Contact Marianne
at marianne@crisis-forum.org.uk
There are a limited number of places at this event, so register early!
